Profile

The Matagorda County Navigation District No. 1 exists to serve its customers and taxpayers by maintaining and developing safe navigation and marine facilities in an efficient and cost effective manner and, through this service, stimulate economic development and the retention and creation of jobs in our district.

The Port of Palacios is primarily a fishery, with the shrimping industry being the economic engine for our region. Our principal commodity is shrimp. Although some of our product is packaged for export and trucked from our area, there are no major direct shipments of import/export cargos from Palacios.
